This Week at GCMS:
It has been
another great week at GCMS! After the short disruption of snow days last week, our students
are settling back in to the routine of the new semester and good things are
happening. I have just a few notes to
share as the week winds toward Friday.
Anti-Bully Program:
Our
anti-bullying assemblies went very well yesterday. The speaker, Major Robert Carter, of the
Madisonville Police Department, was very complimentary of our students and
staff. I felt that our kids really
responded well and took the message to heart yesterday. My challenge to our students now is to
remember and practice the things that were taught. The area of digital citizenship and online
behavior was the main focus of the presentations, and this is such an important
area for students to take seriously and think before they post pictures,
comments, and other information online.
The parent session was lightly attended but was also very informative.
Emergency Drills:
As you know,
we conduct a variety of emergency drills throughout the school year. There are legal requirements that every type
of emergency drill be conducted in January.
With this in mind, we will be doing one of every drill this month. We will watch the weather in choosing when to
do the fire drill. As always, please
review emergency drill procedures and encourage students to always take the
drills seriously. We are always better
prepared in the event of an actual emergency when we have practiced our drills
effectively. Thanks.
Observations:
I have
enjoyed observing in lots of classrooms recently. With observation window 2 closing this week,
I would like for all teachers to be thinking about scheduling your remaining
observations for the school year.
Non-tenured teachers will need a full observation by the end of
March. Tenured teachers in the summative
year will need a full observation by the end of March if you have not already
done so. Tenured teachers not in the
summative year will need a mini observation, also before the end of March if
not already completed. Please review
your lesson plans and contact your administrator to schedule your observation. Summative year teachers (tenured and
non-tenured) should be working on Domain 1 and 4 documentation as well.
Living Well Promise:
If you have
chosen a Living Well insurance plan, you will need to complete your Living Well
Promise this spring. Please review Sarah
Crume’s email from this week regarding how to complete the Living Well Promise.
